Dolphinwatch is run by Geoff & Susanne Magee who have lived on the Loop Head Peninsula since 1982 and raised three children and lots of animals over the past 3 decades.
The townland they settled in, at the Mouth of the Shannon, has excellent vantage points to watch the dolphins from the land and to keep a watchful eye on the sea conditions.
Geoff was an inshore lobster and crab fisherman for over 20 years and seeing the dolphins beside his fishing boat was a common occurence. Eventually, he swapped the fishing lifestyle for marine tourism. He skippers and guides the trips, his commentary is imbued with passionate enthusiasm and a wealth of interesting facts! With a combined fishing and dolphin watching skippering experience of over 30 years, you know you are in safe hands.
Susanne worked in local schools as a remedial teacher, taught sailing classes, and was a fisherwoman, too. She manages the tech and office side of things - as well as crewing.
Geoff & Susanne started Dolphinwatch Carrigaholt in 1992 and love turning people on to the amazing Mouth of the Shannon with its resident group of bottlenose dolphins, thousands of nesting pelagic seabirds, seals, fascinating geology, cliffs and caves of the Loop Head Peninsula and North Kerry. The business is their passion (luckily) and they feel so fortunate to have amazing family and crew who feel the same!
